Akören

Akören is a district 54 km from Konya city centre. The old name of the district is "Akviran".

It is estimated that the settlement around Akören dates back to 7000-6500 BC. Remains of the Neolithic Age were found during excavations in Çatalhöyük, 49 km. away from Akören. The region was also used as a settlement during the Hittite, Roman and Byzantine periods. The ruins in the places known as "Gavurlar Hamamı" and "Horozun Tepesi" show that there was a settlement here during the Hittite and Roman periods. Again, there is a Byzantine city called "Dinorna" in the ancient period in the Ertaş strait of Orhaniye village, 3 km. away from Akören.

Although it is said that Bayındır and Kayı Turkish tribes settled in the region from the 11th century AD, it is also stated that the people currently living in the region came here 200 years ago. During the Bozkır rebellion that broke out in the neighbouring district of Bozkır during the War of Independence, the district remained under the control of the rebels for a while.
