Alanya

Alanya is a tourism district of Antalya Province in the Mediterranean Region of Turkey. Its distance to the city center is 154 kilometers. Located on the southern coast of Turkey, Alanya has an area of 1,598.51 km² and according to TurkStat population data, its population in 2022 was 364,180 people. Alanya district is administratively connected to Antalya province, and Alanya Municipality and its district are under the responsibility of Antalya Metropolitan Municipality. Alanya Gazipaşa Airport, which is 45 kilometers from Alanya, became operational in 2012.

In terms of its strategic location, it is a small peninsula in the coastal parts of the Mediterranean Sea. The Taurus Mountains lie to the north. Throughout history, Alanya has served as an important fortress in the Mediterranean for empires such as Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk and Ottoman. During the Seljuk period, under the rule of Alaeddin Keykubad I, the region gained geopolitical importance. The Red Tower, the shipyard and Alanya Castle, one of the symbols of the city today, were built during this period.
