Altunhisar
Altunhisar is a district of Niğde province.
Its towns and villages were generally founded by Turkmen nomads (Kayı tribe). In recent years, a great development has started in the district with the construction of TOKİ housing, intercity bus terminal and Disabled Education Centre. The road connecting Niğde to Aksaray and Ankara passes through Altunhisar and this road was transformed into a double road in 2011. Located in the west of Niğde, Altunhisar has important agricultural areas. The district is within the borders of Cappadocia region. Its old name is known as Ortaköy. In 1500-1300 BC, the name of the region is mentioned as Anduğı. It was named Ortaköy during the Ottoman period. Altunhisar is included in Evliya Çelebi's Travelogue. In 2010, an asphalt road was built between Çiftlik district and Altunhisar district, connecting these districts. When you turn right 1 km from the exit of this road from Altunhisar, there are Bayatönü Rock House Settlements, which were formed by carving magnificent rocks and date back to before Christ. It is neglected but the 3-storey cave houses are worth seeing. In 2005-2006, 500 hectares of forest was established by the Ministry of Forestry on the plateau road of Altunhisar, and after the newly planted saplings grow, changes in Altunhisar climate are expected.
