Alucra

Alucra is a district of Giresun province. It is 127 km from Giresun, 147 km from Gümüşhane and 148 km from Erzincan. Alucra's settlement history dates back to the Hittites. Scythians, Cimmerians, Medes, Persians, Romans and Byzantines (Eastern Romans) respectively dominated the region. In 391 AD, Alucra was invaded by the Kipchak and Pecheneg Turks coming from Central Asia, and the region remained under the rule of the Turks for about 60 years. [citation needed] In the 8th century, the Oghuzs and Turkmens coming from Transoxiana; They settled in Çamoluk, Çakmak and Koman regions. After the Battle of Manzikert in 1071, Alucra and its surroundings were conquered by the Turkmen bey Kuşluhan Bey and given to the administration of the Danişmend Principality, whose center was in Trabzon. [citation needed] The region changed hands several times between the Byzantines and the Mengüceks during these periods. When the Osmanoğulları established the Anatolian union, Alucra also joined this principality. For a while, under the leadership of Turkmen Uzun Hasan, Akkoyunlus annexed Alucra to their territory. However, Fatih Sultan Mehmed organized an expedition to this region and took it back. After the Battle of Otlukbeli, the Alucra region remained completely under Ottoman rule. It is thought that it got its name from this period due to the abundance of aluç trees. According to another rumor, when Fatih Sultan Mehmed was in Şebinkarahisar, he extended his hand to Alucra and said "al-ücrâ" (a remote place). Alucra was also affected by the Celali Rebellions that broke out in Anatolia. The rebellious Turkmens in this region were suppressed by Kuyucu Murat Pasha. The name Bağırsak Creek was given because of the people whose bellies were cut open and thrown into the water. During World War I, a front was formed in Alucra, and the front commander, Marshal Mustafa Fevzi Çakmak, established his headquarters in the area of today's Fevzi Çakmak and Yeşilyurt villages. There is a martyrs' cemetery around Yesilyurt village, Kurbaba Mountain. Almost all of its population consists of Turkmen/Chepni.
