Ayvacık (Samsun)

Ayvacık is a district of Samsun province. It is divided into two parts by the Suat Uğurlu Dam Lake, built on Yeşilırmak in the district center. In the south of the district, along the Erbaa road, Hasan Uğurlu Dam Lake divides the district into two parts. The oldest records of Ayvacık district can be found in the census books of Ünye, Karakuş (Akkuş), Terme, Arım (Çarşamba) dated 1455. It is called Bölük-i Nahiyet-i Dere-Ayvacuk. At this date, Cilme and Karaoğlan villages were also included in Ayvacık. It is known that the founders of the district are the Ayvacuklu Tribe of the Porsuklu Principality, who came to the region after the disintegration of the Great Seljuk State and were among the founders of the Danışmentliler Principality. This very large nomadic tribe used as winter quarters, with its new name Acıklı, formerly known as Acıklı. They later settled in Ayvacuklu Village as their center. There is also a person named Ayvacuk among the sons of the tribal lord. In the 1834 census, it was mentioned as Karye-i Nefsi Ayvacuk.
