Biga

Biga is a district of Çanakkale province, established on the peninsula named after its own name, 90 km away from the center. It is surrounded by Gönen to the east, Lapseki to the west, Çan to the south and the Marmara Sea to the north. As of 2021, the population of the district was 90,274 and the population of the district center was 55,975.

The main source of livelihood of the district is agriculture and animal husbandry. However, agriculture-based industry is one of the developing sectors. The first industrial facility established is DEMKO Demirci Konservecilik A.Ş. tomato paste factory in Gümüşçay town. In addition, one of Turkey's largest industrial groups (İÇDAŞ) has established production facilities in various sectors, especially iron and steel, one of Turkey's largest groups in the field of furniture (Doğtaş) has established furniture production facilities, and (YTS Yalçın Tesisat Mlz.San.Tic.A.Ş.) has established plastic production and packaging materials facilities within the borders of this district. Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University Biga Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences and Biga Vocational High School are also located within the borders of the district. With more than 4000 students, the faculty makes a significant contribution to the economy of the district.
