Buharkent

Buharkent is a district of Aydın province in the Aegean Region. It is 88 km east of Efeler and 41 km from Denizli. It is on the Izmir-Denizli highway. The district center was established on the Aydın-Denizli highway. Aydın-Denizli railway passes through the south of the district. It is a district famous for its hot water and geothermal power plant. Projects are being carried out to heat the district with a geothermal heating system.[3] It was separated from Kuyucak district and gained district status in 1987, and the people of the district meet their needs from Denizli, except for their political and official affairs. There are 8 neighborhoods connected to the center. The district lands are located in the Menderes Valley. Karlıkdede Hill (1750 m), located in the north of the generally flat lands, is the highest point. The district lands are watered by Büyük Menderes, which flows in the east-west direction. Before becoming a district, its name was Çubukdağ sub-district and the sub-district center was Burhaniye, but when it became a district, its name was changed to "Buharkent" due to its geothermal deposits. The district municipality was established in 1954. While it was a sub-district center of Kuyucak district, it became a district center with law no. 3392 on June 19, 1987. The current mayor is Mehmet Erol. Its economy is based on agriculture. The main agricultural products are cotton, figs, grapes, wheat and olives. There are workshops processing agricultural products in the district. Turkey's first geothermal power plant was established in the geothermal area near Kızıldere village (Sarayköy), east of the district center. Electrical energy and dry ice have been produced since 1984. Fig production is gaining importance in terms of income sources. In this context, Buharkent Municipality carries out studies that bring together both agriculture and industry. The first of these was to open the organized industrial zone in Buharkent.
