Bulanık

Bulanık is a district of Muş province in Turkey. Bulanık is the second largest district of the province in terms of surface area and population, after the central district. The climate is dry and hot in summer and cold in winter. There is Haçlı Lake in the south of the district and Murat River in the north. According to the last census, its population is 82,205 people in total, 25,805 in the city and 56,400 in the countryside. While Bulanık was a district where Armenians constituted the relative majority before the Armenian genocide, after the deportation, as of the War of 1993, people from Ardahan's Posof and Çıldır districts, Ahıska and Revan settled. Additionally, people from Artvin's Şavşat district settled in the region in 1956. Thus, the social structure in the district has changed. Today, the population of Kurdish origin is the majority in the district. The Broad Bulanık Plain is very productive. Due to its structure, many plants, including tulips and poppies, unique to the Muş Plain grow, and this plain is the habitat of the last remaining 11-ringed crane in Turkey. Alparslan 1 Dam located in the region has caused changes in the climate of the district. The district is surrounded by Hınıs and Karaçoban in the north, Varto in the west, Muş center and Korkut districts in the south, Malazgirt in the east and Ahlat in the southeast.
