Çardak

Çardak

Çardak is a district of Denizli province.

The district center was founded in 1105 as a Turkmen tribe called Körin at the foot of Maymun Mountain, and later moved to its current settlement.

In the Middle Ages, Çardak was a small village where the people made a living from animal husbandry. In order to protect their livestock from the heat of the sun, the people of the village at the foot of Maymun Mountain used to take precautions by building canopies called gazebos in front or on the sides of the houses. Other villagers passing by on the caravan route just south of this small Turkmen village called it "Çardaklı Köy". This name was adopted by the local Turkmen people and thus the name of the village remained as Çardak.
