Çaycuma is a district of Zonguldak province. The important industrial facilities in the region are the Turkish Pulp and Paper Mills Joint Stock Company (SEKA) Factory, which was established in 1970 and sold to OYAK within the scope of privatization and named "OYKA Paper Factory", and the Organized Industrial Zone located between the town of Persembe. There is also Sümerbank Filyos Firebrick Factory in Filyos town. The Filyos port project is carried out in the Filyos town of Çaycuma. Natural gas deposits discovered in the Black Sea and Turkey's important quartz crystal deposits are also located in this district. It hosts the Çaycuma Campus of Bülent Ecevit University. Çaycuma also has an airport. Zonguldak Airport is located in Saltukova town of Çaycuma. Turkish Airlines provides Domestic Flights service. There are flights to Istanbul Airport three days a week. Due to the immigrant population living abroad, international flights are also available. Flights to Düsseldorf Airport are available. It is understood from yearbooks and written sources that Kastamonu Province was connected to Çarşamba (Devrek) district in the 19th century, to Bartın in 1873, and to Zonguldak as Çarşamba District in 1902. Çaycuma, which was not an important settlement during the Ottoman period, is a candidate to become one of the important economic regions of Turkey during the Republican period, especially thanks to the recently discovered natural gas deposits and the Filyos port project. During the Ottoman period, people from the villages going to the regional market located on the banks of the Filyos Stream said, "I'm going to tea and Friday", and over time, it coalesced and took the form of Çaycuma. This discourse caused the name of the district to be officially changed to Çaycuma in 1911 because it was confused with Çarşamba in Samsun, and in 1944, it was transformed into a district from a township affiliated with Devrek. It lies to the east of Zonguldak city center. There is the Black Sea in the north, Bartın in the east, and Devrek in the south. Its surface area is 490 km2. Çaycuma is built on the Filyos Stream and the valley formed by this stream. It has a mountainous and rugged terrain. The biggest elevation; It is Balat Mountain.
