Dazkırı

Dazkırı is a district of Afyonkarahisar province. The town center is 140 km from Afyonkarahisar and 80 km from Denizli. The total area of Dazkırı is 338 km2. The altitude of the district center is 830 m. The district consists of 16 villages with its center. Many states have established dominance within the boundaries of the district in ancient times. These states are Hittite, Lydia, Persian Empire, Macedonian Empire and their successors, Rome and Byzantium. There are many historical artifacts belonging to these nations in the artifacts unearthed today. It was originally called Apa. Later, this name was abandoned and it was first described as Polatlı, and then it was changed to Dazkırı due to the abundance of these names and on the grounds that they were confused. When many settlements and villages were formed, 48 villages were connected to the district. It became a parish in 1859, and a district organization was established in 1959 with the law numbered 7033. Until this date, it was the town of Dinar. Dazkırı District gained the municipality organization in 1959 and while 1 sub-district, 1 town and 36 villages were connected to the district, 13 villages were connected to Başmakçı district, 7 villages were connected to the sahibinden district, and 1 village was subordinated to the district due to the fact that Başmakçı Sub-district became a district in 1988, and Petler Township became a district in 1990. With the city being a municipality, 15 villages remained connected to the center.
