Demirözü

Demirözü is a district of Bayburt province. The old name of the settlement is Kısanta. In the Ottoman census of 1530, it was seen as a village in the Bayburd district under the name Kısanta. According to the 1642 Avariz book, there were a total of 50 households in the settlement, 48 of which were Christian and 2 were Muslim. At the beginning of the 19th century, the settlement seemed to be connected to the Koğans (Kovans) township of Gümüşhane sanjak. In 1837, there were a total of 44 households in the village, 42 of which were Christian and 2 were Muslim. In the 1876 Trabzon Provincial Yearbook, 22 men live in 58 households, all Christian (Armenian), in Kovans township. In the same year, the settlement was separated from Kovans township and connected to Bayburd township. After the establishment of the Republic of Turkey, the settlement, which was seen as a village of Pulur township under the name Kısanta in the 1935 and 1940 censuses, has become the central village of Pulur township since the 1945 census. The name of the village, which was Kısanta, was changed to Demirözü in 1959 with the law no. 7267 on the grounds that "it was of foreign origin and caused confusion" and started to be recorded under its new name as of the 1960 census. The settlement, which has the status of sub-district center of Bayburt, became a district of Gümüşhane province on July 4, 1987. With the establishment of the Bayburt province on June 21, 1989, it became the district of this newly established province. In 2008, Çiftetaşb and Güneşli villages were connected to the district as a neighborhood.
