Devrekani

Devrekani is a district of Kastamonu Province in the Black Sea Region of the Republic of Turkey.

The population of the district center is 5,317 as of 2015. The main source of livelihood of the people is agriculture and animal husbandry.

Devrekani is named after the use of this region as an inn for temporary accommodation during the time of Isfendiyaroğulları and "Devlethanı". It is claimed that it was born from the naming of the name as "Devrekani". Devlethan became "Devrekani" over time.

Sevan Nişanyan's "Index Anatolicus" mentions a Turkmen tribe named Devrekan who lived around Iran. It is thought that the Turks who migrated to Devrekani are descended from this tribe.

During his visit to Kastamonu and its surroundings in 1925 for the Hat Revolution, Atatürk came to Devrekani district on August 28, 1925 and stayed as a guest at the farm of Müftüoğlu Mehmet Bey in Kurukavak neighborhood. For this reason, every year on August 28, Atatürk's arrival in Devrekani is celebrated with ceremonies as Culture and Art Week. Devrekani became a district with the law adopted in 1944.
