Dikmen

Dikmen is a district of Sinop province. It is 50–55 km away from the city center. It is located in the east of Sinop, on the border of Samsun province. It is adjacent to Durağan and Gerze districts. The settlement, which was a town affiliated with Gerze until 1990, gained district status on this date. Today, there are twenty-eight villages in the district. Dikmen district, located in the Black Sea Region basin, is a small settlement established among pine forests in the Güzelceçay Valley. In parallel with the general characteristics of the basin, the settlement, which has a mountainous and rugged terrain, is a first degree landslide area. On 30 November 1989, with the inclusion of Çorak and Dumanlı villages in its borders, it received municipality status and was turned into a town. Dikmen is the smallest district in the province in terms of population size. There is migration from the district to larger urban centers within the province and also to large cities within the country. Although Dikmen urban-rural population ratios have changed in favor of the urban population since the 1980s, the district still has a predominantly rural population. Again, since the 1980s, both urban and rural population growth rates have been decreasing.
