Diyadin

Diyadin is an old city. Its name in history is Daudyana. There are ancient cities and historical ruins in the district and nearby areas. Diyadin castle, Meya village ruins and city and Tokluca castle are the main ones. The region remained under the rule of Arsakli, Seljuk, Ilkhanid, Karakoyunlu, Safavid and Ottoman. 1514 Çaldıran was finally annexed to the Ottoman lands along with the Van region at the end of the 1578 Ottoman-Persian War. In the same year, there was an accident in the Beyazıt Sanjak, which was included in the Van Beylerbeylik. In 1744, it was connected to Erzurum Beylerbeylik together with the 4 districts of the Sanjak. It remained under Russian occupation for about three years during World War I and came under Turkish rule again on April 14, 1918.
