Gerze

Gerze is a district of Sinop province. The population of the center is approximately 14,000. It is 39 km away from Sinop. In history, the district took the names Zagora, Gürzühatun, Savetova, Argibete. The Paphlagonians called the western region of the Kızılırmak Gezonolit, and Gerze took its name from the Greek Carusa. [citation needed] Gerze, which came under the rule of Paphlagonia, Hittite, Phrygian, Cimmerian, Lydian, Persian, Alexander the Great, Roman and Byzantine Empires, was conquered by Izzettin I in 1214. During the reign of Keykavus, the Seljuks joined the Ottoman Empire in 1459 during the reign of Mehmet the Conqueror. On February 13, 1956, there was a big fire when the barbecue fires lit by the wife of the property manager, who was newly appointed to Gerze and living as a tenant in Sucu Mehmet's house, spread around when the door of the house was opened on a southwest windy day, and it was reconstructed with the help of the state. Gerze district of the Black Sea Region, which is worth visiting and full of historical and natural beauties, has been chosen as a place of settlement and shelter by societies since ancient times. B.C. Founded as a small village by the Kaşkas in 1400, Gerze, a charming coastal town, was later taken over by the Paphlagonia State and came under the rule of the Hittite, Phrygian, Cimmerian, Lydian, Persian, Alexander the Great, Roman and Byzantine Empires respectively. Gerze, which came under the rule of the Seljuk State in 1214 during the reign of Izzettin Keykavus I, was captured by the Trabzon Empire for a while, and was annexed to the Ottoman Empire by Fatih Sultan Mehmet in 1459. It is understood from the records that the old name of the district was Zagora, Gürzühatun, Savetova, Argibete. As it is known, the Paphlagonians named the western region of Kızılırmak as Gezonolit, meaning "land of spearmen". The district, which suffered a major fire disaster on February 13, 1956, was reconstructed by the state and turned into a modern district.
