Gökçeada

Gökçeada, or Imbros as it was called until 1970, is a district of Çanakkale and the largest island in Turkey. It is located in the north of the Aegean Sea, at the entrance to the Saros Gulf. It has 91 km of coastline. Annual rainfall varies between 950 - 1050 mm per square meter. İncirburnu in the west of the island constitutes the westernmost point of Turkey. In 2011 and 2012, flights between Gökçeada and Istanbul were operated twice a week, but there were no commercial passenger flights in 2013 and onwards.

Gökçeada is one of the 11 "calm cities" (Cittaslow) in Turkey as of 2016. The Cittaslow movement was introduced to Turkey in 2009 when the district of Seferihisar joined. Tunç Soyer, then Mayor of Seferihisar, Cittaslow International Vice President and Cittaslow Turkey Coordinator, pioneered the development of the Cittaslow movement in Turkey, and Seferihisar district of Izmir province became the world's 129th, and Turkey's first calm city. This membership is not only a new opportunity for the promotion of Turkey, but also an important step for the development of the districts that have been granted the title of calm city and the protection of their cultural and historical values. In a short period of 7 years, from 2009 to 2016, the number of members of Turkey's calm city movement increased to 11 with the joining of Uzundere district of Erzurum province in March 2016.
