Gökçebey is a district of Zonguldak province. Gökçebey, which was a district consisting of 4 councils (townships) affiliated with the Bolu Sanjak under the name of Tefen until 1845, preserved this identity until the establishment of the Republic. Tefen, which was made a township during the Republic period, was named Gökçebey in 1963 and the municipal organization was established in Gökçebey on February 29, 1972. Gökçebey town of Devrek district was granted district status in 1990 with law no. 3644. Its surface area is 15,153 ha. 60% of the district is covered with forests. Gökçebey district, whose altitude is 51 meters above sea level, is surrounded by eight hills ranging in height from 906 to 1179 meters. Filyos River passes through the edge of the district and flows into the Black Sea from the town of Filyos. Summers and winters are mild in the district, where the Black Sea climate prevails. In the district center, there are children's parks and cafeteria areas called Camlı Köşk, Municipality Family Tea Garden and Park, Atatürk Park and Tea Garden. Kabalaklı, Pamukdüzü, Kertili (Çamlık) recreation areas, Dark Dere, Kurtdamı and Sarıgöl Forests are extremely suitable places for hunting tourism. There are 1 town, 19 villages and 10 neighborhoods in the district. The population of Gökçebey is 20,996 according to 2020. The population consists of 10,421 men and 10,575 women.
