Hassa
Hassa is a district of Hatay province. Its population is 57.361 people. It is located on the eastern slopes of the Amanos Mountains, on the Hatay-Gaziantep provincial border.
Hassa district was established in 1864-1865 when İbrahim Derviş Pasha, the commander of the Ottoman Fırka-i Islahiye troops sent to the region upon the rebellion of the "Ulaşlı" tribe living in the Amanos Mountains, suppressed the rebellion and stayed in the region. Occupied by the French during the First World War, the district was evacuated by French troops on January 5, 1922 with the Ankara Treaty of October 20, 1921. While Hassa was a district of Islahiye district of Gaziantep province until Hatay's accession to Turkey, it became a district of Hatay after its accession to the Republic of Turkey in 1939.
