Ilgın

Ilgın is a district of Konya province.

Ilgın 3.500 years ago BC . Between 1500 and 1200, a city named Yalburt was founded by the Hittites 25 km. northeast of the present district centre. Throughout history, Ilgın and its surroundings remained under the rule of Hittites, Phrygians, Lydians, Romans, Byzantines, Anatolian Seljuks, Karamanoğulları and Ottomans respectively. From 1077 to 1308, Ilgın, which was a part of the Anatolian Seljuks, became a part of the Ashrafoğulları Principality after the collapse of the Anatolian Seljuks. Ilgın, which was then under the patronage of the Hamitoğulları Principality, passed to the Ottoman rule in 1381. After the Ottoman-Karaman struggles, it was taken over by the Karamanids. Although Emir Timur took the Black Tartars with him after the Battle of Ankara, he could not include all of them. Some of the remaining Black Tartars remained in this region.[1] Ilgın, which was settled by the Black Tartars, later turned into a Turkmen settlement as a result of the assimilation of this community to their neighbours, the Turkmens. However, there are still unassimilated people in Ilgın who know themselves as Kara Tatars even today. In 1467, Ilgın was again taken under Ottoman rule by Mehmed II. During the reign of Bayezid II, Ilgın was recognised as an accident. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk stayed in Ilgın for a while before the Great Offensive.
