İnönü

İnönü

İnönü is a district of Eskişehir. It is on the Istanbul-Eskişehir railway and Bozüyük-Kütahya highway. Ford Otosan truck factory is located in this district.

According to the analysis of the column capitals collected from the ruins in the north of the town, now called Eserönü, the founders of the town were Phrygians.

After the Romans settled in Anatolia, it was annexed to the Byzantine Empire in 395 AD. It is understood from the Byzantine structure called İnönü castle and the historical artefacts found in Kandilli village. It is understood that the town was moved to its present location in front of the rocks during the Byzantine period. It was understood that the name of the town was Basilika in Byzantine times.

During the Ottoman period, İnönü, which was a village of Söğüt accident of Ertuğrul sanjak, which was first connected to the Anatolian province and then to the province of Hüdavendigar; the centre of which was Bilecik, was the place where the I. and II. İnönü Battles took place during the War of Independence. Inönü, which was occupied by the Greeks in 1920 and liberated from occupation on 4 September 1922, became a village of Söğüt district of Bilecik, which was made a province in 1923. In 1926, İnönü became a district centre of Bozüyük district, which was separated from Söğüt, and was connected to the central district of Eskişehir in 1963. İnönü became a district in 1987.
