Karacabey

Karacabey, formerly Mihaliç, is a district of Bursa, 70 km west of Bursa.

In the highly fertile Karacabey Plain, wheat, tomatoes, barley, corn, beans, peas, sugar beet, cotton, sunflower and tobacco are mostly grown. In addition, vegetable and fruit growing is developed and animal husbandry is advanced. Livestock breeding provides great income to the people.

The district center is connected to Bursa city center by a busy 70 km highway.

Karacabey was known as Miletopolis in ancient times and Miletopolis in Roman times. The famous Mihaliç cheese - in the vernacular, Mağlıç - is unique to Karacabey. In history, it was dominated by the Bithynians, Lydians and Persian Kingdom respectively.

The main historical monuments of the city are the Great Mosque built by Sultan Murat I, the Karacabey Mosque built by Karaca Bey in 1457 and the Issız Han, an Ottoman period building on the Karacabey-Bursa road and on the shore of Uluabat.

Bayramdere, located on the Marmara Sea coast of Karacabey, and Ayvaini Cave, located in the south of Lake Ulubat, are tourist attractions.

In addition, 5 different festivals are organized in Karacabey. These are "Stork Festival, Kite Festival, Corn Festival, Linden Festival and Bicycle Festival". There is also a fair in Karacabey.
