Kaynaşlı is a district of Düzce province. Kaynaşlı district became a district of Düzce province according to the Decree Law No. 584 published in the Official Gazette No. 23901 on December 9, 1999. The epicenter of the Düzce earthquake, which had an instrumental magnitude of 7.2 at 18.57 on Friday, November 12, 1999, was Kaynaşlı. The earthquake, which was effective for 30 seconds, was felt in many provinces. According to the statement of the Prime Ministry Crisis Management Center, the number of dead is 845, the number of injured is 4948, the number of buildings damaged in the earthquake and need to be demolished immediately is 3395, the number of destroyed or heavily damaged houses is 12939, and the number of workplaces is 2450. Kaynaşlı was founded on a valley that extends to the foothills of Bolu Mountain as the eastern extension of the Düzce Plain. The district borders are surrounded by Bolu province in the east, Düzce province in the west, Mudurnu district in the south and Yığılca district in the north. High hills and mountainous terrain can be seen at the end of the plain borders. The highest peak boundaries are Menekşe Hill at 1577 meters and Bolu Mountain ridge at 790 meters. Topuk Plateau Facilities belonging to Fenerbahçe Sports Club are located within the district borders. The Black Sea climate is dominant. Summers are cool and winters are cold. The most precipitation falls in Spring and Autumn. Leafy vegetation forms the general structure.
