Mamak

Mamak is one of the metropolitan districts of Ankara province. Its name became synonymous with the military unit and prison it housed. The actual establishment of the Mamak district, which was separated from the Çankaya district by the Law on the Establishment of Six Districts and the Abolition of the Central District of Ankara Province, adopted on 29 November 1983, dates back to the second half of the 1200s. Its founders are Ahis. The Ahi Government, which ruled in Ankara, gave the names of those who founded and managed different places to those places, and these regions were named after the Ahi elders who governed there. Such as Ahi Mamak, Ahi Etimesgut, Ahi Tura... Ahi Mamak also managed the farm established by the Ahis in Mamak and gave its name to it. After Ankara fell to the Ottomans, a commander named Tahir was appointed to the farm here. In the sources, we see this commander as Tahir Mamak. Mamak's history is identical to the history of Anatolia. In the research conducted in Mamak-Kayaş, we come across the formation history of Anatolia. Prof. Dr. It is known that Kurt LEUCHS contributed to the formation of Anatolia with the research he conducted in Kayaş in 1932. Research conducted in our region has shed light on history. During his research around Hüseyin Gazi Mountain, Max Pfannenstiel found a 5 cm knife and other items that would shed light on the history of Mamak. Some ruins of historical artifacts from the Roman period were also found around Kutludük, Ortaköy, Gökçeyurt and Kızılca. An artifact found in Kutludükun Town is today exhibited in the Anatolian Civilizations Museum. Again, some historical artifacts unearthed during the Celebration are exhibited in front of the old town hall. Early Roman ruins found in Ortaköy and Gökçeyurt neighborhoods also decorate our mosques.
