Marmara (Balıkesir)

Marmara is a district of Balıkesir province. It covers Marmara Island and the small islands around it. The origin of the word marble comes from here. It is famous for its marble. Paşalimanı Island is connected to Erdek district, not Marmara district.

Marmara Islands are located in a shallow sea area between the island Kapıdağ Peninsula and Şarköy in the southwest of the Marmara Sea. The largest of the islands in the Marmara Sea, Marmara Island, whose name comes from marble and Marmor, has an area of approximately 110 km². The highest point of the island is Ilyas Tepe, also known as Radar Tepe.
