Mekke

Mecca or Mecca-i Mukarrama is the city in the historical Hejaz region of present-day Saudi Arabia, the administrative center of the Mecca Region.

Mecca is located in the former Hejaz region to the west of the Arabian Peninsula and east of the Red Sea. It is considered the holiest city in Islam. Because Muhammad, regarded as a prophet by the religion of Islam, was born here. It is believed that the Qur'an, the holy book of Islam, began to be revealed here in the cave of Hira. The Kaaba, called Beytullah, is also located in this city. It is referred to as the 'mother of cities' (ummu'l kur'a) in the Qur'an. Although Mecca was ruled by leaders called sheriffs who were descendants of Muhammad for many years, it came under the rule of Ibn Saud from 1925. The city, which grew very fast in this modern period, is home to the 4th tallest building in the world. world, Makkah Royal Clock Tower Hotel, also known as Abrac el-Beit. However, the rapid growth of the city under the Saud Family has damaged many historical structures such as Ecyad Castle and the cultural texture of the city. Today, the city, visited by approximately 15 million Muslims every year, is the third largest city in the country after Riyadh and Jeddah. Non-Muslims are not allowed to enter the city.
