Şalpazarı, formerly known as Ağasar, is a district of Trabzon. It is 69 km away from Trabzon. While it was included in the Görele District, which was affiliated with Trabzon at that time in the Black Sea Region under the administration of the Ottoman Empire, it was annexed to the Vakfıkebir District in 1798. A very significant part of its population consists of Turkmen/Chepni. It is known that the settlement in Şalpazarı district dates back to very old times. The people living in the region are Chepni, from the Üçoklar tribe of the Oghuz tribe. Şalpazarı District was conquered by the Hacıemiroğulları Principality in 1313, during the Trabzon Maçka raids, by descending from the Kadırga Plateau towards the north, during the reign of Bayram Bey. Along with Şalpazarı, Vakfıkebir, Beşikdüzü, Eynesil, Görele and Çanakçı were also conquered. The meaning of the word Chepni; It means brave, rebellious against the enemy, merciful towards the oppressed, brave, border guard, and the local people have all of these characteristics. Chepni people living in the district; He migrated from the south of Lake Baikal in the 980s, lived for a period in the Oghuz Yabguluk State, and gathered around Selçuk Bey, who was the army commander of this state, when he acted independently in Cend. Later, Chepnis participated in the campaigns with Tuğrul Bey. When Sutan Alparslan ascended the throne of the Great Seljuk State after Tuğrul Bey, he entered the Battle of Manzikert with Byzantium in 1071. Chepni were under the command of Danishmend Ahmet Gazi in this war. With the victory of the Battle of Manzikert, Turks settled in Anatolia in large influxes. Chepnis, together with Danishmend Gazi, founded the Danishmend Principality, centered in Sivas, in 1080. Chepni conquered Çorum, Tokat, Niksar, Amasya, Malatya and Kayseri together with the Danişmend Principality. Today, there are important Çepni Boyu members in the mentioned provinces. By 1178, II. The Anatolian Seljuk State, on whose throne Kılıç Arslan sat, fought with the Danishmend State. Danishmendli, which was defeated by the Seljuks, was destroyed in 1178. After the collapse of the state, two principalities named Taceddinoğlulları and Hacıemiroğulları were established in the northern lands of Danişmendli. Hacıemiroğulları Principality, established in Kale village of Mesudiye district of Ordu province, ruled over the north of Tokat, Mesudiye, Ordu, Giresun, east of Samsun and west of Trabzon. Şalpazarı is one of the places conquered and ruled by the Hacıemiroğulları Principality. The oldest document found about Şalpazarı is the Trabzon Tahrir Book dated (H.921 - M.1515). In the document, the name of Şalpazarı is mentioned as "Akhisar Creek". In later records, it was recorded as either Akhisar Creek or Akhisar Creek Subdistrict. This is the origin of the word Ağasar, as it is known among the public. While the district was connected to the Görele district of the Trabzon Sanjak during the Ottoman period, it was understood from the documents held by the local people that it was connected to the Vakfıhatuniye (Vakfıkebir) district of the Trabzon sanjak with an edict issued in 1798. In the Trabzon 1320-1902 Yearbook, the name of the district is mentioned as "Şar Pazar". Şar-şal is a type of fabric woven from wool and was used in the production of outer clothing such as aba, zipka and loincloth. The district center also developed as a marketplace where these fabrics were bought and sold. Şalpazarı District was turned into a township within the Vakfıkebir district in 1914, and became a district with a law enacted in 1987, and was organized and became operational on 02.08.1988.
