Sarayköy

Sarayköy is a district of Denizli. Although the exact date of the establishment of Sarayköy district is not known, it is estimated that it was founded by the Turkmen tribal chief Sarıbey towards the end of the 14th century. The name of the village founded by Sarıbey with his own name was later transformed into Sarayköy today by undergoing various changes. Until 1763, Sarayköy, which was a village until 1763, became a district of Aydın province on this date. In 1867, when Denizli liva was converted into an accident, it maintained its status as a sub-district affiliated to Denizli, and on February 26, 1882, when Denizli became a sanjak, it became an accident affiliated to Denizli Sanjak as of this date. On May 15, 1919, when the Greeks invaded Izmir and advanced towards Aydın, Nazilli and Sarayköy, the Sarayköy National Committee took action without wasting time. Mufti Ahmet Şükrü Yavuzyılmaz gathered everyone who could hold a gun in and around Sarayköy. Thanks to this initiative, the volunteer force gathered protected the Menderes bridge and its vicinity, preventing the enemy from advancing and entering Denizli. In memory of this day and because of the heroism shown by the patriots of Sarayköy, an efe statue was built and this statue became the symbol of Sarayköy. Every year on May 24th, this meaningful and enthusiastic event is celebrated with festivities throughout the district as "Sarayköy's Participation in the National Struggle Day".
