It is one of the districts of Manisa province in the Aegean Region of Turkey. It was established in 1954 with decision number 6324. It is located 155 km from Manisa and 70 km from Uşak. Selendi Stream, one of the important branches of the Gediz River, passes through the district borders. The main source of income is tobacco growing, animal husbandry and agriculture. In addition, cherry growing has increased in Pınarlar, Eskin, Terziler, Kürkçü and Hacıhaliller villages in recent years. Kınık neighborhood picnic area, Gavur houses, rock tombs and Bayraklı monument are the places to visit in Selendi. The population of the center is 8,108. Its total population, including its villages, is 26,500, but when the immigrants of the district, which has been constantly migrating for the last 50 years, are taken into account, its population exceeds 77,000. It is the least dense district of Manisa. In addition, the gold-lead-chromium mixed mineral reserve located in the Eskin neighborhood of the district was operated for a while, but as a result of the bankruptcy of the Bulgarian company, which held the right to use the mine for 49 years, the mine was closed and has been idle for years. In addition, Selendi Stream, the largest tributary of the Gediz River, carries more water than the Gediz River during the winter months. The biggest investments the district has received in its history are; Tekel is a leaf tobacco storage enterprise and a regional primary boarding school. Selendi's tarhana, höşmerim, keskek and yufka are famous. American type small leaf tobacco produced in the district is very valuable. During the Turkish War of Independence, violent clashes took place in the Lower Güllüce and Kınık locations. It has 44 neighborhoods.
