Sultanhisar

Sultanhisar, which was a sub-district center of Nazilli district until 1958, became a district in 1958. Sultanhisar is a cultural center founded by the Seljuk Dynasty in 1270. It came under the rule of the Ottoman Empire in 1425. It is the fortress of Nilüfer Sultan, one of the daughters of Aydin Bey. The city was his work and thus the town took its name as Sultanhisar. 52 residents of Sultanhisar were massacred during the Greek occupation. In September 1922, 22 houses were burned down by the retreating Greek forces, 4 residents were massacred and 12 residents were taken captive to the prisons of Crete and Athens. Its location is 30 km from Sultanhisar Aydın, which is on the İzmir-Denizli State Highway (D 320), E87 of the European E-roads and the İzmir-Afyonkarahisar railway. It is located away.
