Taşlıçay, (Kurdish: Avkevır, Azerbaijani: Daşlıçay) is a district of Ağrı province. The settlement, which was previously a subdistrict called "Aşağı Taşlıçay" in Diyadin district, was turned into a district with the law no. 6324 dated 04.03.1954. It was established on the northern bank of the Murat River, on the Türkiye - Iran transit route. Diyadin and Doğubeyazıt are located in the east, Ağrı and Eleşkirt are located in the west. Its area is 798 km2 and its altitude is 1660 meters above sea level. The highest point of the district is Muratbaşı (Koçbaşı), a mountain with an altitude of 3510m, located on Aladağ in the south. The continental climate is dominant in the district. Summers are hot, winters are cold and snowy. In high places, snow depth reaches 1 meter. As of 2020, its total population is 22,000 and its center is 6,500. The economic activity of the district and the livelihood of the people are mainly agriculture and animal husbandry. It is 30 km from Ağrı, 65 km from Doğubeyazıt, 1095 km from Ankara and 1450 km from Istanbul.
