Tavas
Tavas is a district of Denizli Province. Tavas district got its name from the name Davaz, known as the old name of Kale district, which is located 40 km away. The ancient name of Kale district is "Tabae". In fact, the name Tavas is a transformation from Tabea. After years, it underwent a change and took the name Tavas. The old name of Tavas district is Yarengümedir.
It has been determined that the oldest settlement in the region is the site known as Medet Höyüğü. The mound bears traces of the Old Bronze Age, Hittites, Phrygians, Persian Empire, Ancient Greeks, Roman Empire, Byzantine Empire and Turkish periods. However, scientific excavations have not yet been carried out at Medet Mound.
