Tekkeköy

Tekkeköy is our district located 1 km south of the 13th km of the Samsun-Ordu highway. Settlement in the district is as old as human history. Today's Tekkeköy is a charming Black Sea district that has spread northwards from the area of cave settlements throughout history. As a result of the excavations carried out in one of the caves in the region, cultural remains from the Hittite period at the top and the Copper Age at the bottom were unearthed. The presence of items made of Bronze and Copper and arrowheads made of stone next to the dead in the village graves shows that the district had an advanced technique at that time. It is estimated that the district was 4 km away from the coast, as the sea was initially filled with alluviums, and then the sea was filled with alluviums. The district entered the borders of the Pontus State in the mid-3rd century BC, and was later taken over by the Byzantine and Anatolian Seljuk State, respectively. It came under Ottoman sovereignty along with Samsun province by Yıldırım Beyazıt. The name of the district is estimated to be after the "Tekke" founded here by Sheikh Zeynüddin, who lived between 1250-1330, and the farm he created around this area, which became a town, and therefore took the name "TEKKEKÖY". The district became a district on 09.08.1988. Tekkeköy Caves, which are located in the district and have entered the archaeological description literature in the archaeological excavations and findings made so far, are the oldest settlement in Turkey after Antalya Karain Cave and Marmara Yarımburgaz Island cave. Tekkeköy Caves, which were found to have layers dated between 15,000 BC and 60,000 BC, are the oldest human settlement in the Black Sea Region.
