Uludere

Uludere is a district located in the Eastern Anatolia Region and connected to the province of Şırnak.

The history of the district dates back to before Christ. Throughout history, it was under the sovereignty of the Urartians, Medes, Persians, Parthian Empire, Romans and Sassanids. The turmoil of the years following the conquest of Hakkâri region by Imadeddin Zengi I in 1142 and Hulagu in 1260 stopped when the local beys accepted to be connected to Karakoyunlu in 1349. Uludere, which had been under the rule of Timur in 1386 and the Safavids from 1502 onwards, was annexed to the Ottoman Empire during the reign of Suleiman the Magnificent and, like all provincial beys, was left free in its internal affairs. The tribal lords remained under the sovereignty of the empire until the Republic on condition that they preserved their sovereign rights, were governed by a system outside the Ottoman territorial system and sent soldiers on campaigns.

After the proclamation of the Republic, Uludere was transformed into a sub-district and connected to Beytüşşebap district, and became a district of Hakkâri province as of September 1, 1957 with the law numbered 7033, which entered into force on June 27, 1957. On May 16, 1990, it was connected to the newly established Şırnak province with the law numbered 3474. Uludere district is connected to Şırnak province and its distance to the city center is 48 km. There are 12 villages and 3 towns in the district. Uludere Municipality was established in 1958. In 2018, Bulakbaşı village, which is connected to the district, was connected to the district as a neighborhood.
