Ulus

Ulus is a district of Bartın province of Turkey. It is located in the Western Black Sea Region. The district, located in the inner part, is the only district that does not have a seashore, unlike other Bartın districts. Unlike the coastal climate, its climate is drier and relatively continental. The district center is approximately 250 meters above sea level. In the district extending to the Küre Mountains, the altitude reaches up to 1200 meters above sea level in some areas. It is surrounded by Safranbolu district of Karabük province in the south, Pınarbaşı and Azdavay districts of Kastamonu province in the east, Kurucaşile in the north, and the central district in the west. It is accepted that the history of the nation dates back to 3000 BC. Between 800 BC and 2000 BC, there were raids and migrations to the region, first from the east and then from the west, and the Gasgoians, contemporary with the Hittites, settled in this region for a long time. During the time of the Anatolian Seljuks, Ulus remained within the borders of the Candaroğulları Principality. During the Ottoman period, the district remained a small settlement and did not witness any commercial, political or military events. While Ulus was a township within the Safranbolu district, it was made a district within the Zonguldak province on 8 August 1944. Ulus was connected to Bartın province after Bartın became a province with the law numbered 3760 dated 28 August 1991.
