Yeniçağa

Yeniçağa is a district of Bolu. In 1990, it was a town in Gerede district and was transformed into a district. The history of Yeniçağa district dates back to the Eskiçağa village of the district. Eskiçağa is on the Zonguldak road, 8 km away from the district center. It was founded seven centuries ago under the name "Çağa" and settled in a valley between three hills. In 1402, Yıldırım Bayezid Khan chose this place as the gathering area of his armies while going to the Battle of Ankara; He stayed for a while and built a bath, a laundry and a mosque here during his stay. While Çağa was a large settlement center, as a result of a major fire disaster in 1904, some of the people migrated to the region called Yeniçaga today. Since this migration took place during the reign of Sultan Reşat, this place was named "Reşadiye". In 1934, Atatürk stopped in Reşadiye on his way to Bolu, and when he learned that the local people came from Çağa, he wanted Çağa to be called Eskiçağa and Reşadiye to be called "Yeniçağa". From that day until today, the name of the district has remained "Yeniçağa". After the great earthquake that occurred in Eskiçağa in 1944, 80% of the people of Eskiçağa migrated to Yeniçağa. Yeniçağa, which was a township from 1936 to 1990, gained its municipality in 1962. Yeniçağa township, which is developing at a great speed, became a district with the law numbered 3644, which came into force after being published in the Official Gazette numbered 20553 dated 20 May 1990. The district governor took office on August 5, 1991, and the district organization officially became operational on September 5, 1991. Yeniçağa District, 38 km away from the city center, is on the Ankara-Istanbul highway. Yeniçağa Lake, which lies right on the coast of the district, is a natural wonder with its trees along the shore. This recreation area is also known as "Bird Paradise" as it is a seasonal accommodation area for migratory birds. Blackfish, a freshwater fish, can be caught in the lake. It is one of the districts that is most likely to be popular as a residential area and become a tourism center in the future due to its location between Ankara and Istanbul, its location in an easily accessible region and its natural riches. One of the most beautiful places of Yeniçağa is undoubtedly the hill overlooking Yeniçağa Lake, where the grave of Poet Dertli is located. Shipping, especially international transportation, is the most important economic resource of the district.
