Yenipazar

Yenipazar is a district of Aydın province in the Aegean Region. It is a district of Aydın, 8 km inland from the Izmir-Denizli State Highway (D 320), which has not received any immigration and has therefore preserved the Aydın Culture, and is famous for its unique pita varieties. The settlement called Orthasia, 5 kilometers east of the district, reveals that Yenipazar and its surroundings are a very old settlement. Greek geographer and historian Strabon refers to Orthasia, which was unearthed in the Donduran village of Yenipazar, as a Carian settlement. The city, which was attacked by the Cimmerians in the 7th century BC, was taken over by the Lydians as a result of the defeat of the Cimmerians by the Lydian king Alyattes. In the 6th century BC, it joined the Ionian Union and, like many Anatolian cities, came under the rule of the Persians. The theater and a Byzantine structure, which are among the important buildings in the city, are still standing today. The well-preserved sarcophagi and chamber tombs on the necropolis show quality workmanship.
