Yomra

Yomra is a district of Trabzon province and consists of 25 neighborhoods (Çamlıca, Çamlıyurt, Çınarlı, Demirciler, Gülyurdu, Gürsel, İkisu, Kaşüstü, Kayabaşı, Kılıçlı, Kıratlı, Kömürcü, Maden, Namık Kemal, Ocak, Oymalı, Özdil, Pınarlı, Sancak, Şanlı, Tandırlı, Taşdelen, Tepeköy, Yenice, Yokuşlu). It was transformed into a district on 19 June 1957 by law no. 7033, and on 4 April 1959 it became a district of Trabzon province and a de facto district organization was established. The first name of Yomra district is Durana. This name was given by the first settlers of the district. The district took its new name from the Yomra apple growing in it. Yomra Apple received its Geographical Indication Registration Certificate in 2021 as a result of the application made by Yomra Municipality. With the Metropolitan Law, village legal entities of Yomra district have ended and it has 25 neighborhoods. Town municipalities such as Oymalıtepe and Kaşüstü were closed by law even though their population was over 2 thousand. The district is 10 km away from the center of Trabzon and 7 km away from the airport and Karadeniz Technical University. The coastal road passing through the north of the district prevents traffic from concentrating in the district centre. Thus, the district has become comfortable in terms of traffic. Within the district borders; Novotel (5 Stars), Sandal Hotel (3 Stars), Trabzon Palace of Justice, World Trade Center, sales and services of many world-famous automobile companies, furniture manufacturers' site, fish farms, Cevahir Outlet AVM, Trabzon AVM, Petrol Ofisi, Shell and Aytemiz Petrol. There are stations. There is also the campus of Avrasya University, the first foundation university of Trabzon, the student dormitory of the Credit and Dormitories Institution (Yomra Kanuni Male Dormitory) with a capacity of 4 thousand people, and Turkey's largest gymnastics hall.
